Here at Berry's we perform hearing evaluations and consultations, which takes about an hour and a half to complete. During this time Dr Jud will assess your health and hearing healthcare needs then test your hearing and speech comprehension. She will then explain your results in a manner that is easy to understand. A recommendation will be made for a medical evaluation when necessary. If a sensorineural hearing loss is present and after discussing the options, if you are interested in trying hearing aids a follow up appointment will be made.
A hearing loss consultation will be the first step after our testing. We will review with you realistic expectations for the use of hearing amplification which has different levels to help you find the right options for you. Just like the fitting and adjustments, we will teach you how to use them correctly in different environments. We'll answer any questions you have and will go over such things as how the batteries are inserted and how long you can expect them to last.
Hearing Loss can impact your Cognitive health as well. Hearing loss has been linked with a decline in cognitive functioning. Our new Cognivue Screener helps us to assess a person's cognitive performance while you're in our office. It's a simple automated screening assessment that helps us ensure your hearing correction solutions are what you need.
Each fitting and adjustment appointment takes about an hour long since it is tailored specifically for your unique hearing loss and physical needs. We allow this time to properly fit and program the aids to fit comfortably in your ears. Dr. Jud will also show you how to put the hearing aids in your ears, how to take care of your aids and how to adjust to them in different settings.
We understand that hearing aids will be a huge part of your daily life, so we offer a trial period using our DEMO hearing aids at no charge* In this time, we encourage you to get out and test your aids in different listening environments so that you are able to get the full experience of wearing your aids before purchasing. * IF we need to make you custom earmolds there would be a charge for these as they would be specific for your ears.
At Berry's, we want to make sure that you're aids are performing at the highest quality, so we bundle the cost of cleaning and maintenance into the price of your hearing aids. We appreciate and value our patients and will teach you basic cleaning procedures that you can do at home between your scheduled visits.
We offer custom earmolds for musicians, hunters, for personal listening devices such as ear phones, and swim-molds so that water stays out of you or your child's ears! A specific list of what all we offer is located under the hearing aids section.
Assistive listening devices can come in handy with any situation you may be in. Since children begin learning speech during the first six month of life, their hearing is usually screened at birth. There are two different ways to test your child's hearing: Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) and/or ABR - Auditory Brain Stem response tests. With OAE, a soft eartip is placed into the ear canal, the computer plays sounds in to the ear that are measured in echos (if no echo or a reduced echo, there might be hearing loss). With ABR, small earphones and electrodes are placed on your baby which test how the auditory nerve and brain stem respond to sound. OAE testing is also used for further assessing the extent of an adult's hearing. We can provide DPOAE testing.
